At the exhibition Re:form, co-organised by Galerie Frank Elbaz and Galerie Bao, audiences will trace the journeys of five Vietnamese artists and their approach to expression centred around the spirit of abstraction \u2013 one of the most enduring and radical artistic tools that formed the foundation of the country\u2019s contemporary era. This exhibition features members of the “Group of Ten”, including Nguyen Tan Cuong, Do Hoang Tuong, Truong Cong Tung, Ha Manh Thang and Thao Nguyen Phan. In 1986, following reunification and over a decade during which this movement faded into the background to serve national building goals, the abstract movement re-emerged as a liberation of the era. The Group of Ten explored ways to break previous norms, continuing this trajectory before moving into different artistic directions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Re:form proposes a view of abstract art in Vietnam as a starting point for the contemporary, marked by ruptures,<\/span> fluidities<\/span>, and unfinished possibilities. \u201cFlesh and Leaf, Sap and Sprout\u201d (Vietnamese: Th\u1ecbt \u01af\u01a1m L\u00e1, Nh\u1ef1a T\u01b0\u01a1m M\u1ea7m) is Ha My Nguyen\u2019s solo exhibition in Paris. The exhibition brings together various groups of works in which the artist constructs a poetic environment, inviting viewers into a garden of human vegetation.<\/p>\n

Growing up among the mountainous regions of central Vietnam, H\u00e0 My Nguyen was shaped by the freedom and rhythm of the natural landscape. Her practice visualises femininity, nature, and the reimagining of forms existing in the spaces and boundaries between humans, vegetals, and the imagination. Her works question desire, where eroticism oscillates between fear, mistrust, and fertility. In this exhibition, she explores marginalised knowledge passed down through daily life in her rural hometown, questioning its transmission and erasure, while celebrating its silent resilience.<\/p>\n

The exhibition offers a counter-narrative to tropical clich\u00e9s. The garden in Ha My\u2019s work is a site where she questions the role of women in a normative society. Navigating between the social stereotypes of Vietnam and France, the artist reveals the oppression of female desire.<\/p>\n

For their first participation at Art Paris, Galerie Bao takes part in the sector Promesse, curated by Alexia Fabre under the theme R\u00e9paration (Repair). Galerie Bao\u2019s participation ensures an essential local perspective on Southeast Asian Artists.<\/p>\n

Through three artistic practices deeply rooted in matter and memory, Galerie Bao explores repair as a poetic gesture: an act through which art restores to the world what seemed lost. This year, under the historic dome of the Grand Palais, Galerie Bao proudly presents: Truong Cong Tung with the series \u201cDay Wanes\u2026 Night Waxes\u2026\u201d \u2013 a dialogue with Philipp Otto Runge\u2019s unfinished cycle Tageszeiten; Nguyen Duy Manh with a series inspired by the history of Vietnamese ceramics \u2013 \u201cBare Wounds\u201d and parts of the work \u201cLost Spirits\u201d; Lena Bui with the work \u201cClean Land,\u201d a sharp response to the felling of century\u2013old trees in Ho Chi Minh City.<\/p>\n
