3rd UOB Painting of the Year in Vietnam

The announcement and award ceremony for the UOB Painting of the Year 2025 (Vietnam) took place on the evening of 8 October 2025 at the elegant setting of Chillala – House of Art, Ho Chi Minh City.

This year’s competition convened a jury panel of veteran artists and researchers in the Vietnamese art landscape, including: artist Dang Xuan Hoa (Chief Judge), artist Do Hoang Tuong, artist Le Thua Tien, and Prof Pamela Nguyen Corey. With over 600 submissions received for both the Established Artists and Emerging Artists categories, the competition has proven its wide reach and credibility within the Vietnamese art community.

The most prestigious award, UOB Painting of the Year 2025 (Vietnam), went to artist Cao Van Thuc for his work, “Temporary connection”. The Most Promising Artist of the Year 2025 (Vietnam) award was presented to artist Nguyen Ngoc Thuan for his debut work, “Self-portrait 2025 (a life rooted in my form as a tree)”.

 

Within the framework of the UOB Painting of the Year 2025 competition in Vietnam, the award-winning works in each category are as follows:

Established Artists Category

Gold Prize: “Reality and reality 02” by Vu Hoang
Silver Prize: “Four couplets on the Mekong” by Tran Quoc Giang
Bronze Prize: “Memories of the earth” by Ngo Thanh Hung

Emerging Artists Category

Gold Prize: “Liminal state” by Tran Viet Long
Silver Prize: “Seed” by Le Tan Chung
Bronze Prize: “Café corner” by Tran Van Hieu

The two winning works, “Temporary connection” and “Self-portrait 2025 (a life rooted in my form as a tree)”, will proceed to the UOB Painting of the Year 2025 Southeast Asia regional award ceremony in Singapore on 12 November 2025. The 3rd season of the UOB Painting of the Year exhibition, featuring the 8 winning artworks and 14 finalist works, is open to the public from 9 to 27 October 2025, at Chillala – House of Art, Ho Chi Minh City.
